Musical Moments: The Soundtrack to My Life: Childhood Memories

This is where I am definitely going to show my age. this week I am going to share some of the songs I remember playing at home during my childhood. I am a child of the seventies and the musical taste within my family is extremely varied, with a large age gap between myself and my siblings (12 and 10 years respectively) I was introduced to a wide variety of music from a young age.

I don't know if anyone else can remember Jimmy Saville's Golden Oldie Radio Show that used to be on every Sunday around lunchtime when I was a little girl. I remember my mum having it on in the kitchen while she cooked the Sunday Dinner. the range of music played was vast and really stuck in my head as a Sunday tradition, I was really sorry when it stopped.

See what I mean by diverse.

My sister was a teenager in the seventies, when I was 2 she was 14 with a serious crush on Bay City Rollers and Donny Osmond. I remember her bedroom walls being covered in posters of them. She had tartan trousers, platform boots and the requisite tartan scarf. She even went to see Donny Osmond a few years ago in Cardiff, lol. Isn't it amazing what sticks in your mind.

My brother, 10 years older, was a rock fan (hmm sounds familiar) his tastes ran to T-Rex, Jimmy Hendrix and Mott the Hoople. Come to think of it he actually looked a bit like Marc Bolan when he was a teen, lol.

I could add more and more but I shall refrain. Goes to play with childhood songs on YouTube [ : D ]

  1. My childhood songs were completely different. I recall Boney M, Bucks Fizz and Brotherhood of Man! I feel so old today Emma!

  2. I am not sure about these. For me it would be the rave tunes in my teenage years. :) x

  3. I grew up listening to the oldies. Not so much the 70s, which I don't consider oldies, but the late 50s and the 60s. I don't listen to oldies as much as I used to, but I do still love it. The House of the Rising Sun is a fantastic song.
