Synopsis from Goodreads

The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

Summer Girl

Lyrics by Maggie Stiefvater (with an extra verse by J and P)
Music by J and P

I fell for her in Summer
From Summer she is made
She is my lovely Summer Girl

I'd love to spend a winter
But I'm never warm enough
For my Summer Girl

It's Summer when she smiles
I'm laughing like a child
It's the Summer of our lives,
I'll contain it for a while

She holds the heat, the breeze of Summer
In the circle of her hand
I'd be happy with this Summer,
If it's all we ever had, if it's all we ever had.

She doesn't cast a shadow,
Even in the Summer Sun
My lovely Summer Girl.

She can save me from myself,
She's my only saving Grace,
My lovely Summer Girl

It's Summer when she smiles

I'm laughing like a child
It's the Summer of our lives,
I'll contain it for a while

She holds the heat, the breeze of Summer
In the circle of her hand
I'd be happy with this Summer,
If it's all we ever had, if it's all we ever had.

She is ready for the outside world.

Enter BERTIE AND COMPANY

But the outside world soon proves more topsy-turvy than any stage production. Bertie can make things happen by writing them, but outside the protective walls of the Thèâtre, nothing goes as planned. And her magic cannot help her make a decision between—

Nate: Her suave and swashbuckling pirate, now in mortal peril.

Ariel: A brooding, yet seductive, air spirit whose true motives remain unclear.

When Nate is kidnapped and taken prisoner by the Sea Goddess, only Bertie can free him. Tantalising Trailers: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith

I know there is a lot of speculation about the insta-love concept but I really like the idea of falling in love at first sight (see I am not as cynical, bitter and twisted as you thought [ : p ] ) So when I first heard about this book the word that came to mind was AWESOME. I cannot wait to read it - yes I know I am deviating away from my love of paranormal romance to you know actual romance (the shock). I love the whole fate, destiny and co-incidence idea that lead us to where we should be.

Title: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Author: Jennifer E Smith
Publisher: Headline
Publication Date: 5 Jan 2012

Synopsis from Amazon

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Imagine if she hadn't forgotten the book. Or if there hadn't been traffic on the expressway. Or if she hadn't fumbled the coins for the toll. What if she'd run just that little bit faster and caught the flight she was supposed to be on. Would it have been something else - the weather over the Atlantic or a fault with the plane?

Hadley isn't sure if she believes in destiny or fate but, on what is potentially the worst day of each of their lives, it's the quirks of timing and chance events that mean Hadley meets Oliver...

Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Doesn't it look brilliant.

Publisher: Egmont
Publication Date: 6 June 2011

Synopsis from Amazon

Twin siblings Jack and Jaide discover they are pivotal to a secret supernatural organisation that protects the earth from marauding Evil! Portland might seem like a quiet coastal town, and their grandmother is perhaps no dottier than anyone else's, but it soon becomes apparent that the strange things going on around them are anything BUT ordinary. It's all very well discovering that you suddenly have magical powers, but when you don't know exactly what they are, or how to use them, then facing impending peril doesn't seem like a very good idea at all...

GUEST REVIEW BY KAIN OF LOU AND KAIN'S GAMES AND BOOKS

The Trouble twisters is an invigorating book that keeps you hooked on every page, from the first to the last, one of the best things about this book is the way it’s written. Its written so that it keeps you trying to guess how the hero or heroine gets out of that situation, it also leaves you on the edge of your seat trying to guess what will happen to the main characters.

It’s the first of a series and I look forward to number 2.

I would rate this book 4 out of 5 for the writing and the story.

Title: Hourglass
Series: Hourglass
Author: Myra McEntire
Publisher: Egmont USA
Publication Date: 14 June 2011

Synopsis from Goodreads

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

I am seriously bemused as to why this hasn't been picked up in the UK. You know it has even been optioned for a movie yet still not published in the UK. I WANT IT.

REVIEW

I am having such a hard time writing this review because I really had issues with it. The premise sounded brilliant but for me it didn't translate within the narrative.

Although I felt sympathy for the main character, Katelyn, for the loss of her mother I felt that there was more of a background story surrounding her death than was stated but this was never developed. Katelyn morphs into Kat when she moves in with her Grandfather, trying to build a new life to accompany the new town. I found her emotions/reactions and character in general to be inconsistent. Thinking about it now it was the inconsistencies with the characters that frustrated me the most about this book not only with Kat but with ALL the characters. I found myself wondering about their change in actions/attitude as it didn't seem to fit in with how they were portrayed earlier within the story.

There are a number of plot threads hinted at within the narrative, only one was really pursued while the others were like constant static noise in the background. It made me feel as if there was no true direction and that the plot had been left wide open to go off at any angle it chooses to in the future. I am all for plot twists but did feel that this story needed less possibilities or more answers.

On a positive note the writing is beautifully descriptive, the tension and atmosphere are well portrayed. However, it do not think it will be enough for me to continue with this particular series.
