Random Post: Getting Ready for Santa

I was just wondering if anyone else has family traditions that they like to do on Christmas Eve to get ready for Santa.

Since having the girlies obviously Christmas is centred around them. Here is what we like to do on Christmas Eve - plus I will tell you that this is the only night of the year that they actually ask to go to bed early, lol

We have Christmas songs playing on the stereo.

We have mainly snacks and nibbles to eat rather than a lot to eat in preparation for all the sweets and chocolate that Santa is bound to leave.

After tea we put on a Christmas movie.

Then we go outside and scatter the magic reindeer food in order to guide the sleigh to our house.

The girls have a bath (well you have to be clean for Santa)

We make hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. Plus get Santa's snack ready - in our house as we like to be slightly different this consists of lager and crisps

Then we snuggly up and read The Night Before Christmas.

Off to bed the girls go then J and I collapse in a heap in preparation for the early start tomorrow, lol.

So would you like to share what you do???

And I just had to include this:

  1. we don't have any of that not having kids - I usually end up with a house full of boys to feed depending on which ones of Hadley's friends decide to turn up without warning. I know of two who are comign tonight but it could end up being another 3 or 4 on top of that.

I am starting the manic christmas foo cooking session in a bit though!

  2. That all sounds lovely. Liking the reindeer food thing a lot - so cute!

My Christmas Eve ritual tends to involve me staying out of the way of anything that might involve housework, preparation or errands. We usually crack open the Quality Street, drink some festive sherry (!) and watch a Christmas movie in the afternoon. And then around ten thirty at night I figure it's time to wrap some presents. Sad, but true.

    Merry Christmas!

  3. I recently came across your blog and have been learning along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have loved reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very frequently.

  4. Because Lady M is only just about to turn 3 (on the 1st of January, no less - rather rubbish timing) this is the first Christmas that I'm able to really start traditions with her. We enjoyed opening her playmobil advent calender this month (and it can be reused so we'll do that every year) and tonight will be writing a letter to Santa which we'll leave in front of the fire with a festive snack. Wine and olives. Because that's what mummy likes. Er... I mean that's what santa likes. Then we will read a beautiful pop up version of The Night Before Christmas which I bought M the year she was born. Then she will go to bed and I will drink wine and curl up with a book before an blubbing over whatever watchnight service I can find on the BBC.

  6. We don't really have any Christmas traditions yet. When I was younger (and our family still celebrated) my parents used to always let us open one present on Christmas eve and it was always new pyjamas. Or maybe I made that up, I can't be sure.

Now, we usually watch a Christmas film during the day (I think it was Miracle on 34th Stree this year?) have some hot chocolate before bed and read The Night Before Christmas. We leave out mince pies and milk for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer.
