On My (Library) Wish-List

Title: Skyship Academy
Series: The Pearl Wars
Author: Nick James
Publisher: Flux
Publication Date: 8 Sep 2011
Synopsis: From Amazon
A devastated Earth's last hope is found in Pearls: small, mysterious orbs that fall from space, and are capable of supplying enough energy to power entire cities. Battling to control the Pearls are the Skyship dwellers - political dissidents who live in massive ships in the Earth's stratosphere - and the corrupt Surface government. Jesse Fisher, a Skyship brat, and Cassius Stevenson, a young Surface operative, cross paths when they both venture into forbidden territory in pursuit of Pearls. Their chance encounter triggers an unexpected reaction, endowing each boy with remarkable - and dangerous - abilities that their respective governments would stop at nothing to possess. Enemies thrust together with a common goal, Jesse and Cassius make their way to the ruins of Seattle to uncover the truth about their new powers, the past they didn't know they shared, and a shocking secret about the Pearls.

I am planning to run the Year 7 library lessons next year on the different types of books available to them. You never know what might appeal to them unless they are able to see the options.
I found this one on The Book Smugglers
It looks like it will be a fantastic addition to the steampunk/dystopian genre.

As the first book is dystopian/steampunk and I like to work in themes [ : D ] the next choices are also from that genre and I will confess to coveting them myself. So double wish-list books, mine and the libraries.
Title: The Affinity Bridge
Series: Newbury and Hobbes
Author: George Mann
Publisher: Snowbooks
Publication Date: 1 Sep 2008
Synopsis: From Amazon
Welcome to the bizarre and dangerous world of Victorian London, a city teetering on the edge of revolution. Its people are ushering in a new era of technology, dazzled each day by new inventions. Airships soar in the skies over the city, whilst ground trains rumble through the streets and clockwork automatons are programmed to carry out menial tasks in the offices of lawyers, policemen and journalists. But beneath this shiny veneer of progress lurks a sinister side. For this is also a world where lycanthropy is a rampant disease that plagues the dirty whorehouses of Whitechapel, where poltergeist infestations create havoc in old country seats, where cadavers can rise from the dead and where nobody ever goes near the Natural History Museum.

This book was suggested by the awesome Alex Woolf, if you haven't already you need to go check out the fantastic Soul Shadows on Fiction Express here
